I'd like to take a moment to talk about my Uncle Ovid. He was a singer for the Canadian award winning reggae band Truth & Rights, and a soul with an immense passion for music.
Uncle Ovid had fallen sick for some time and during his illness I was blessed to have spent some time with him. As I sat by his side during what were scary, sad and depressing moments the two of us engaged in philosophical life talks. My Uncle & I began to speak on the incredible shortness of life. It's strange, when one is in the midst of life, we miss how quickly life can pass. It was during one of these moments that Uncle Ovid taught me to live my life to the fullest and use no excuse to stop me from doing what my heart and mind calls upon me to do. From this we we created a “Fulljoy Bucket List”. He listed items like attending his first ever Jays game, a football game, and meeting a musical inspiration of his, Maxi Priest.
Uncle Ovid and I began checking items off of our Fulljoy Bucket List and created lasting memories together doing so. The most touching of them all, was Uncle Ovid having the opportunity to meet Maxi Priest. I approached Mark & Gem and told them about Uncle Ovid's plight, and the two of them masterminded the whole operation. But what happened after that meeting was a miracle. Maxi Priest and Uncle Ovid connected and spoke for hours, about music, life, principles, & performance. This connection inspired Mark & Gem to make a radio interview with Ovid and Maxi Priest to play on air. My family and I were deeply touched that everyone took time from their schedules to make his dream a reality. It is moments like this that make the spirit of life live forever.
At 3:30pm on Friday I lost Uncle Ovid to his ongoing battle with cancer. But the celebration of what he has done as an artist has left an impression on me that will last eternally.
Thank you to @markstrizzzy & @missjemeni for all the support.
